Bo Sullivan first began his long career at WHYN radio in 1990 as a sports talk show producer. Bo then moved on to become the host of that sports talk show. In 1993, Bo became the sports anchor and co-host for the WHYN morning show. After a few hiatuses, both planned and unplanned, Bo came back to stay in 1996 as the morning show sports anchor, producer, and co-host.
Born and raised in Westfield, he's now raising his own family there. He lives with his wife Kris and daughters Leighanne and Shannon. When Bo was growing up, his father Richard Sullivan was superintendent of schools in two local communities. Politics runs in the family. Brother Brian is a Westfield city councilor and brother Rick is the city's seven term mayor. Besides transporting his children to various activities including CCD and swimming lessons, he coaches both daughters in three different sports. He also works as a part-time political consultant. In his scarce spare time, Bo likes to golf and is a frequent visitor to the Connecticut casinos.
What does Bo like most about his position at WHYN? For one, he's a big fan of waking at 3:30 a.m. Monday through Friday. He also enjoys meeting the many loyal listeners to the show. His lifelong ambition is to open a sports bar and play Texas Hold 'em every day of his life.
an anonymous listener weighs in on taxes...
Regarding liquor, a subject with which I am intimately familiar, the state taxes liquor at the wholesale level at around 9%. This is hidden as the tax happens when the distributor sells the stuff to the store. The last time the geniuses on Beacon Hill and the present governor hiked taxes on us, they added a 6.25% sales tax on liquor at the retail level. Of course they also kept the wholesale tax. So when the sale tax was increased from 5% to 6.25% - a 25% increase – on everything else, by including liquor the sales tax went from 0% to 6.25% over night. Wisely, the imbibers of Massachusetts got that tax repealed a couple years later.
Of course that increase in the sales tax didn’t solve our financial issues, so now they’re looking for more. Taxes to politicians are like crack to a crack addict. So the new taxes on the Mass Pike will remove $12 million from the pockets of the citizenry and disappear into the black hole of Commonwealth (what an oxymoron, but I digress) Politics.
Have a nice day
......and Mary Lou has a Paul Revere-type tax warning.......
Today I learned of a bill that was presented in our legislature in January and which will affect each of us who drives a car. Knowing an increase in the gas tax would be met with opposition, the presenters have proposed an EMERGENCY pilot program to assess a mileage tax. (What is the emergency?) Not only is it unreasonable to raise taxes in the current economic climate, it is even more oppressive to create new ones. This mileage tax would, quoting the bill, “vary pricing based on the time ofdriving, type of road, proximity to transit, vehicle fuel efficiency, participation in car-sharing or pooling, or income of the driver.” So if you drive during rush hour or live close to public transportation you will pay a higher rate then someone who lives in the country or who does not drive during busy drive times. Heaven help you if you drive an older car or have a higher income!
You may read the bill, which has been co-sponsored by Benjamin Swan athttp://www.scribd.com/doc/127448447/Bill-H3142. I urge you to read this bill and call your representatives to oppose this untenable proposition.
It is important to understand the ability and appetite of any level of government to collect the data required to implement a program such as this is insidious and provides access to information that is quite frankly none of their business. It is an inroad to the implementation to Agenda 21. If you are not aware of Agenda 21 you need to educate yourself about this plan to control us in ways unimagined. Thanks, folks, and keep the cards and letters coming in!
