Springfield police are urging residents not to leave their cars unattended with the engine running.
The call was made after a vehicle was stolen in the city Wednesday night with a two-year-old child inside.
The victim reported he had walked a friend to their door at a home on State Street when his car was stolen.
The vehicle was found about a half-mile away, and the child was unhurt. Police say more than 90 vehicles have been stolen in the city since February 8th, with nearly half left in a running condition.
Motorists are reminded to lock their cars and take their keys and valuables with them every time.
Massachusetts law forbids idling vehicles past five minutes unless they are being serviced or used in deliveries.
A first offense results in a one-hundred-dollar fine.
