Officials: Crash Accidental- Cause Not Yet Known

The Federal Aviation Administration has released a preliminary report on a plane crash that left three people dead in Leyden on Sunday.

The report finds the crash was accidental.

The twin-engine Beechcraft Baron took off from Barnes Airport in Westfield just after 11 a.m. and crashed around 20 minutes later near the Leyden Wildlife Management Area.

Killed were the plane's owner, 53-year-old Fredrika Ballard, 68-year-old William Hampton, who was a flight instructor, and a student pilot, 29-year-old Chad Davidson. The FAA and National Transportation Safety Board are continuing the investigation.
