A Springfield man is facing charges for a carjacking incident in New Jersey.
Police in Freehold Township, Monmouth County say Maxim Kuropatkin tried to rob one person in the parking lot of a Sam's Club on Monday morning, then approached an elderly woman and demanded her car keys before knocking her down.
Kuropatkin then stole the car and crashed it into a tree, police said. Good Samaritans reportedly were able to detain him before authorities arrived.
Kuropatkin is being held pending a bail hearing.
