Bus Service In Transition

Public hearings are underway for possible cutbacks or changes to Pioneer Valley Transit Authority bus routes.

PVTA officials say a budget deficit of over a million dollars, created by a change in the state budget, is forcing them to consider action on 16 routes.

Hearings for public comment have already been held this week in Holyoke and Springfield and will continue tonight in Amherst and tomorrow in Longmeadow, and will roll on into mid-July.

The changes would go into effect in late August or early September.
