New Numbers Show Only Part Of Problem

The number of deaths from opioid overdoses is continuing to rise in Massachusetts.

State Police say they investigated 877 deaths that were caused by drug overdoses last year.

That's a 16 percent increase over 2015 levels, and officials blame it on use of the synthetic narcotic fentanyl.

The average overdose victim in the state is 37-years-old, and 77 percent of overdose victims last year were men.
