MA Governor Signs Migrant Shelter Bill

Governor Maura Healey has signed a supplemental budget package that allocates more than 400-million-dollars to the emergency shelter system.

The measure also limits the length of stays in state emergency shelters to nine months.

Healey says the measure uses resources to maintain critical services and programs while keeping the budget in balance.

She also says the limits on the length of stays in shelters is a responsible step to address capacity and fiscal restraints.
